HYBRIDS

MINIATURIZE YOUR ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS TO MANUFACTURE WITH EXTREME AUTOMATION TO THE HIGHEST PROFIT AND SECURE YOUR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY INTO ONE LONG LASTING SOLUTION.

  • Miniaturization offers a lot of benefits.
  • Once in production, miniaturization and /or hybrids lower your cost dramatically.
  • The Surface Size, The Volume, The Weight, The Cost, The Automation lower manufacturing cost, humidity and water rejection, all offer added value.
  • Increase vibration reliability, and better dynamic of logistics.
  • In many cases, there are numerous techniques we employ, based on experience, to increase IP protections on Hybrids.
  • One very big advantage of a Hybrid is that we can combine different technologies into one substrate to replace most of an actual PCB and make the product better.
  • One other advantage is that on your Hybrid, you would be able to make everything smaller and still maintain, if not enhancing your circuit’s functionality and maybe even add functionalities over time without having to physically redesign the Hybrid.

1. Component Size:

Hybrids: In hybrid designs, components are often selected for their small size and high performance. Surface-mount technology (SMT) components, which are much smaller than through-hole components, are frequently used. Microelectronics technologies, such as chip-on-board (COB) or flip-chip bonding, allow for extremely compact component placement.

PCBs: Traditional PCBs can also use SMT components to reduce the size, but the flexibility and complexity of the circuit board can limit the degree of miniaturization. Components on a PCB are typically placed on one or both sides of the board, which can limit space-saving opportunities.

2. Integration of Functions:

Hybrids: Miniaturized hybrids often integrate multiple functions into a single package. This can include combining sensors, microcontrollers, and other components into a compact unit. By doing so, the overall size of the system is reduced because there's no need for separate components for each function.

PCBs: While PCBs can integrate various functions, they may require additional space for connectors and wiring to link different components, which can limit miniaturization. Complex PCBs with numerous components might also require larger board sizes.

3. Customization:

Hybrids: Miniaturized hybrids are often custom-designed for specific applications, allowing for precise optimization of size and performance. This tailored approach can lead to more efficient use of space.

PCBs: Standard PCBs come in various sizes, and while they can be customized to a certain extent, they may not offer the same level of optimization for size-sensitive applications.

4. Power Considerations:

Hybrids: Miniaturized hybrids may require efficient power management to minimize the space needed for batteries or power supplies. Low-power components and energy-efficient designs are crucial for compact hybrid devices. Designing a Hybrid generally reduces the overall circuit consumption.

PCBs: PCBs can accommodate various power solutions, but their size might limit the capacity for large batteries or complex power systems.

5. Thermal Management:

Hybrids: Miniaturized hybrids must consider thermal management carefully since smaller components can generate heat more efficiently. Heat sinks or other cooling methods may be required, which can impact the overall size.

PCBs: PCBs offer more space for heat dissipation, which can be an advantage in larger systems.

In summary, miniaturization in hybrid designs often involves a higher degree of customization, integration of functions, and careful selection of compact components and technologies. PCBs, while capable of miniaturization to some extent, may have limitations due to the need for connectors, wiring, and a standard form factor. The choice between a miniaturized hybrid and a PCB depends on the specific requirements of the electronic device and the balance between size, functionality, and customization needed for the application.
